    On1 Photo Raw review

I was looking for an alternative for Lightroom and by pure coincidence, I found On1 Photo Raw. I couldn’t open .CR3 files in Lightroom on my phone and On1 Photo Raw was the only app that could open the photos and import them into Lightroom, that’s how I discovered this application.

I do lots of selective editing and On1 Photo Raw is very good at masking. The only things I miss from Lightroom are the texture slider and the color grading wheels. On1 Photo Raw is a little bit slow but it’s something that I can live with. When it gets too slow, you just have to restart the application so that the cache gets emptied.

Do I suggest On1 Photo Raw as a Lightroom replacement? Yes, I do, especially if budget is a concern. You can’t beat the price for what it offers. If you are interested in trying it, they offer a 14-day free trial period and even after the trial, you still have another 30 days full refund period to try out the application. If you decide to purchase it, you can use the coupon code STORYTELLING to get 20% off.

Why AI can never replace artistic editing

When my sister heard about my plan of providing photo editing service her first reaction is that with all the AI photo retouching apps available it’d be hard to attract clients. While those apps are good at correcting exposure they won’t be able to add an artistic interpretation to a photo. Especially most of the time I aren’t even aiming at the correct exposure. What I try to do with everything photo is apply the right mood to it. No presets can do that and I doubt there will ever be.

    Look me in the eyes

The original photo was just a quick shot when my kiddo walked past a wall. I have edited the photo to add more dramatic lighting to make it looks more like a portrait.

    Running away

I was taking a walk with my kiddo. Then he started to race me. I didn’t have the time to change the settings on my phone and quickly snapped a photo. The original photo is overexposed. I’m not sure whether I like more the first or the second photo so I’m posting both.

    Stop the Time

The original photo is underexposed. The model is looking at a pocket watch. I evidenced the light source and gave it a suspended-in-time atmosphere. When the light is too low, usually I prefer to have an underexposed photo instead of bumping up ISO. I know that I can brighten it up afterwards.
